Intuitive Mixed Media Art Journal @ STAMPlorations

{My DT work for STAMPlorations}

Hello friends! Welcome to the 100th Sunday Stencil project at STAMPlorations. Today I bring you my project that was made without plan and just go with the flow. I must say that many of my artwork has no actual plans. I just create and let my hands play with watercolors and will only stop when the brain steps in to decide a stop or continue.

For this art journal, I did it within an hour time frame while chatting with my girls. No full concentration on the artwork; hands working, mouth talking and the mind mingle ☺; hence intuitive.

 The background didn't use a lot of process; only clear gesso spread  and air dry followed by stenciling using texture paste through Layered Petals ARTplorations stencils and let dry and continue chatting away with girls {lol}.

 I started dropping some light brown watercolors from the top part and spritz water to let it flow. When dried, I brush off light gesso near the stenciled pattern and blend both gesso and watercolors lightly for natural look.

 Next I used Happy Flowers ARTplorations stencil to create some flower patterns by dabbing red and pink watercolor paints using sponge over the stencil.

 Using Happy Flowers ARTplorations stencil once again, this time I create some embossed flower patterns with texture paste over the stencil. I decided to go for subtle colors so leave them as is without coloring except highlighting the edges with tan watercolor pencil and water brush. The butterfly was stamped on drawing paper and cut out for coloring before I glue it down.

Lastly I adhered strips of quotes and giving the edges a black tone to highlight them. I love quotes very much and this one is just so cool.

I hope you like my simple and minimalist mixed media project this time.

I would love to see your no-plan-just-fun project too. Why not link it up at STAMPlorations Mixed Media challenge before time is up at the end of this month. Just remember No Cards entry please but others and must use any stencil/s.

That's it for today. I look forward to pay you visit when I can.

Till then. have a pleasant week.

Hugs and smiles,

Flutter & Fly {Art Journal} @ MHKDesigns

{My DT work for MHKDesigns}

Hi all! Wishing all of you the best of health and happiness in your every day life adventure. I'm doing pretty okay with my plans so far especially the on-going sewing of baju kurung, kaftan, pillow sheets, and drapes. I just looked through a book on how to sew children's attire which fascinates me to give it a try. The step by step pictorial tutorial looks like easy although my understanding is blurry somewhere, hehe. I will make time to find good You Tube videos and study on how to sew a children's dress. My model will be my youngest girl. She is pretty excited about it. If anyone can recommend me a good video, I will appreciate it so much.

Enough blab. Today let me walk you into second release of the month from MHKDesigns and this time is all about butterflies namely Flutter & Fly available at MHKDesigns Etsy Shop.

I have used all the three butterflies images and one sentiment in the stamp set to create a vintage looking art journal that uses mixture of watercolor paints and coffee altogether.

Isn't the images and sentiments look gorgeous in this week's release?

A few close-up:

 I created the background by applying texture paste through a square links stencil after giving the pages with a coat of homemade clear gesso for easy flow of watercolor paints mixed with black coffee. I only used two shades of red and blue watercolors for this project that is layered with plenty of colors one after another until I feel satisfied. The black coffee simply darken up the colors creating earth tones especially brown here and there.

 All I did was just playing with the colors and coffee; let them mix, flow and absorb. I let it air dry for a while before I doodle the butterflies antenna. Also highlight the edges of these creatures with light gesso.

That's about it for today. I am so glad you visit me today, thank you.

I look forward to see your creations using MHKDesigns and why not link it up at MHKDesigns blog challenge this month for a chance to win vintage images.

See you tomorrow with intuitive mixed media art journal.

Have a good weekend.

Father's Day Mixed Media Card @ MHKDesigns

{My DT work for MHKDesigns}

Welcome to mid-year! Happy Thursday friends! I wish you lots of happiness and joy this June. I have had great time this morning attending my orchids with my oldest girl. I managed to re-pot eight pots of different orchids. My mother gave me her orchids from time to time because she believes in me to take good care of them even though she knows growing orchids is not my cup of tea although I love gardening but who would have thought my love for orchids simply grow by watching Mom's greatest passion for orchids over the last forty years of my life.

So today I have a new creation made as part of my design team work for MHKDesigns June challenge. Take a peek at MHKDesigns blog to see the designers' gorgeous creations using MHKDesigns digistamps and digipapers you can get from the shop.

I created this card which is commissioned to me for father's day that is just around the corner here in Malaysia which is celebrated in June after Mother's Day last month.

Some up-close shots:

 I used a digital image from Various Vehicles digi stamp set.

 Here is this month's photo inspiration for you to play along in the challenge

 but if you use products from the MHKDesigns store, you can link up ANYTHING!

That's it for me today. I look forward to see your creations at Mr. Linky.

Have a nice day.

Never Hide Your Wings {Art Journal} @ STAMPlorations

{My DT work for STAMPlorations}

Happy Sunday friends! How is everyone doing? I have been a little bit busy the past weeks doing some commissioned art work so am not able to keep up with social media for a while although I try to in between when taking a short break. Other than that I have been doing a lot of sewing projects too. Once I started it is so hard to stop. My girls' room has new off white daylight and night curtain for a week now and they are thrill about it. The only thing left to do is give the walls a new color; probably cream or lighter brown, I shall see. I also had the urge to finish off sewing my middle girl's formal batik school uniform last week so she can wear it when school reopen on June 11. My four kiddos are now home enjoying second semester break. That's for two weeks and let me say I love it when the school is off allowing me moments to relax from driving the car. The car is so happy to rest too!

Last but not least, we are fasting this Ramadan which gives my soul and mind to stay calmer even more.

Let me now take you to today: I bring you my Sunday Stencil feature for STAMPlorations. I created a decoupage mixed media art journal and the layers of green shades for the background is absolutely out of my comfort zone. Yes I love planting green plants in my garden and I love the greenery sights but using green background for my art work is my first time here. Even my eldest daughter finds me odd, lol. Maybe because she always sees my background is normally blues and browns.

For the first time, I used serviette napkin with roses painting in my art journal. Firstly I intuitively colored the pages with three shades of green watercolors {yellow green, fluorescent yellow green and dark green} and acrylic paints {permanent green}. On areas where I felt was somewhat darker, I toned down with white watercolor and the green turns lighter. I keep painting until I felt satisfied.

Next I applied modeling paste through Ethnic Organic One ARTplorations stencil on both pages to create patterns. For additional interest in creating jungle look according to my eldest daughter, I decided to use black watercolor and use my finger to dab the color through Plaid Maker ARTplorations stencil. I admit I had no idea what would come next when I colored the background green. It's all about intuitive {smile}.

One thing for sure though, the use of roses serviette napkin was planned for decoupage! I fussy cut the roses and leaves and placed them on the pages for composition at first before I stick it down with glue {a mixture of pva glue and water}. For areas that look somewhat blurry or blank to my eyes, I layered the adhered rose napkin with another ply of  rose napkin. At that point I would have just finished my art work but I didn't want it to look as cut and paste. So I lightly colored the edges of roses and leaves with yellow green watercolor so it absorb into the art work and leave wonder to a person who may figure out, "How did she do it?". Just the way I ask myself the same question when I look at someone's art. Smile.

Lastly I stamped the sentiment from Trendy Butterflies 2 stamp set directly on the background. Unlike the butterflies, I stamped it on drawing paper, fussy cut, colored with watercolor pencils and glue down near the roses.

That's it for now. If you like the stamps and stencils I used, do visit STAMPlorations SHOP and get special prize simply by using my coupon code:
